El laboratorio se creó en 1996 y se equipó a través de proyectos financiados por fondos concursables del Ministerio de Educación (MINEDUC), proyectos de investigación y de asistencia técnica, el FONDEF D97F1062 “Complementación tecnológica para captura, administración y distribución de bases de datos georeferenciales” y el proyecto MECESUP UBB-0206.

- Sistemas de Información Geográficos.
- Análisis y Procesamiento Digital de Imágenes.
- Sistema de Posicionamiento Global.
